About the event

Join us for a four-day immersive retreat exploring healing, self-discovery, and expanded states of consciousness through GROF® Breathwork in the peaceful wooded setting of Pendle Hill.

Through the transformative practice of GROF® Breathwork, participants are invited into expanded states of consciousness that support emotional healing, spiritual insight, self-discovery, and connection to the deeper wisdom of the psyche.

Developed from the pioneering work of Dr. Stanislav and Christina Grof, GROF® Breathwork combines accelerated breathing, evocative music, focused bodywork, creative expression, and integrative sharing practices within a safe and supportive group environment.

Whether you are new to breathwork or continuing a path of deep inner work, this retreat offers an opportunity to reconnect with yourself in a nurturing community setting surrounded by nature.

An Inclusive & Welcoming Space

We are committed to creating a compassionate and inclusive environment that welcomes people of all identities and lived experiences, including participants who identify as queer, poor, trans, immigrants, and/or BIPOC.

Explorations of burdens and gifts connected to legacies of imperialism — including the impacts of capitalism, slavery, colonization, displacement, and forced migration — are welcome to be held, witnessed, and shared within this space.

We invite participants into a community grounded in respect, curiosity, dignity, and care for the diverse paths that bring us together.

Lead Facilitators

Marianne Murray

Marianne is an eclectic and experiential practitioner in the field of learning. Her academic studies include master’s degrees in transpersonal psychology and mindfulness-based psychotherapy and a doctoral degree in transformative learning and change in human systems. Integral to her work has been her training with Stanislav Grof – she completed the Grof Transpersonal Training in 2001, is a certified GROF® Breathwork facilitator, and has facilitated holotropic breathwork in the US, UK and Europe, Kenya, and India. She is certified also as a facilitator of Bert Hellinger’s systemic constellation work and completed her training as a massage therapist, both of which inform her practice as a facilitator.

Marianne had the good fortune to study with Stan during the mid-1990s, both in breathwork training and as a student at CIIS. Living into Stan’s insights on the nature of consciousness and his cartography of consciousness catalyzed not only deep personal healing, but also radically informed her work with group facilitation in the field of personal learning and change.

A faculty member at the Academy for the Love of Learning in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Marianne has been intimately involved with the development of their Leading by Being curriculum and helped to establish the Academy’s overall pedagogy. Topics that motivate her include: somatic awareness as an integral aspect of learning (and un-learning) as we explore unconscious, and semi-conscious, beliefs and biases. The role of facilitator presence in individual and group learning and healing. Now in her mid-70s she can’t help but ask, too, what is the conscious completion of a life’s journey?

Marianne is senior faculty/teacher for the GROF® Legacy Training USA, serves on the Board of Directors for GROF® Legacy Project, and is a Mind and Life Fellow.

Patty Nagle

During the first 35 years of her life, the values deeply ingrained in Patty centered around cultivating an independent spirit, learning to do things on her own, and persevering. While these qualities served her well, they also came with consequences—ones that became apparent as she began developing the capacity to allow and let go of her willful ways. The value of allowing was simply not something that had been instilled in her.

Patty grew up in New England and often says, “You can take the girl out of New England, but you can’t take the New England out of the girl.” She was raised to be pragmatic and productive—a true “doing” machine. She learned to pull herself up by her bootstraps and do what needed to be done. The idea of slowing down, trusting, and allowing things to unfold ran counter to everything she had learned, everything she was valued for, and everything she excelled at.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a focus on exercise physiology from Penn State University. Early in her career, Patty worked as a fitness trainer and assistant aquatics director, and she competed in endurance triathlons.

After moving to Santa Fe in the mid-1990s, Patty spent two decades working in the nonprofit sector. She served as director of Upaya Zen Center, operations and event manager at Bioneers, and director of programs and managing director at the Academy for the Love of Learning.

In these roles, Patty was responsible for managing people, solving problems, and implementing ideas and visions—continuing to excel as a “doing” machine. Over time, however, she became frustrated and fatigued, sensing that there was more to who she was beyond what she could accomplish. Administrative work began to feel like it only skimmed the surface of what truly mattered. At the same time, she was drawn into experiences that expanded her consciousness, including meditation, nature-based solitude, Grof (Holotropic) Breathwork, and consciousness-altering substances. Through these explorations, something within her began to shift.

In 2015, Patty initiated a significant career transition, earning a master’s degree in counseling from Southwestern College and becoming a certified facilitator in Grof (Holotropic) Breathwork. This shift required her to focus far more on “being” than “doing.” Her intention was to prepare for work in the emerging field of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy as it moved toward legalization. While psychedelics have yet to be legalized in most states, Patty has found many meaningful and creative ways to apply her skills and training in the meantime.
