Grofian Psychedelics Facilitator Certification

The Grofian Psychedelic Facilitator Training is an advanced program for those who wish to skillfully and ethically facilitate psychedelic experiences in the Grofian tradition. This training builds directly on the foundations established in our Level 1 – Grof Breathwork Facilitator Training, where participants gain a deep understanding of Grofian theory, experiential practices, and the principles of safe, ethical, and compassionate facilitation.

Because of the unique methods and values that guide Grof Legacy Training USA, completion of Level 1 is a prerequisite for joining the psychedelic track. If you are new to our work, we encourage you to begin with Level 1 – Grof Breathwork Facilitator Training. On a case by case basis, those with prior certification in Grof Breathwork or Holotropic Breathwork may be considered for joining psychedelics training units.

In this advanced program, you will learn to apply Grofian principles to the facilitation of psychedelic sessions, weaving together:

  • Grofian transpersonal psychology

  • Contemporary research on psychedelics

  • The lived wisdom and experience of program faculty and participants

  • Cross-cultural learning from traditional medicine practices

While the program has a strong theoretical foundation, it is also highly experiential. Participants will engage in both online learning and residential intensives in areas where use of medicine is legal or decriminalized. Our core medicines of focus include psilocybin, LSD, 5-MeO-DMT, MDMA (and 3-MMC) and ketamine. We also encourage participants to gain experience with psychedelic medicines (aka sacraments) offered in ceremonial settings, such as ayahuasca or San Pedro (huachuma).

The goal of the Grofian Psychedelic Facilitator Training is not simply to provide technical skills, but to prepare facilitators who embody the heart-based gravitas of the Grofian lineage—facilitators who can help guide profound and sometimes challenging psychedelic experiences with presence, depth, and compassion, supporting integration into the fabric of daily life.

Program Structure

The Grofian Psychedelic Facilitator Training combines online study with in-person experiential retreats, creating a balance of theoretical grounding and hands-on practice.

Online Units

Each online unit focuses on a specific medicine or theme and includes:

  • Readings, video lectures, and guided study materials

  • Weekly live Zoom presentations and discussions

  • Integration quizzes and a reflection paper

  • Approximately 6–8 hours of engagement per week, with all materials available in advance for flexible pacing

Required Online Units

  • Working with LSD in the Grof lineage, including a close reading of Stan Grof’s seminal work LSD Psychotherapy

  • Working with Psilocybin, with consideration of lawful programs developing in several states

  • Working with 5-MeO-DMT

  • Music for Psychedelic Sessions

  • Integration Practices

  • Ethics in Holotropic Practices

Optional Online Units

  • Working with Ketamine, including formats used in US legal clinical settings

  • Ceremonial Practices, exploring Ayahuasca, San Pedro (Huachuma), and other indigenous or contemporary ceremonial contexts. We will invite indigenous practitioners to share their wisdom and practice, as well as Western practitioners who have developed ceremonial ways of working in groups

In-Person Experiential Units

Each residential intensive offers the opportunity to work directly with a specific psychedelic medicine in a carefully held setting in alignment with regional laws. In these immersive retreats, you will:

  • Participate in psychedelic sessions as both experiencer and sitter

  • Work in formats appropriate to the medicine: individual sessions, group with sitter/experiencer dyads, or hybrid models for shorter-acting medicines

  • Practice facilitation under the mentorship of senior Grof Legacy faculty

  • Engage in structured preparation and integration practices

  • Participate in faculty-led discussions on the unique potentials and challenges of the medicine

  • Collaborate with peers in small groups to deepen knowledge and skill
