Holotropic Music - Training Module

Holotropic Music will take you on a two-part journey into the transformative role of music in holotropic states, with a particular focus on Grof® Breathwork.

Part 1: Online Theory Module (Four Zoom Sessions)

The online portion will introduce the foundational theory of holotropic music, including its therapeutic principles, historical context, and the intended use developed by Stan, Christina, and Brigitte Grof. We will explore the seven-stage structure of a holotropic breathwork music set, begin actively listening to and evaluating music, and discuss how different types of music support various phases of the inner process. These sessions lay the conceptual groundwork and prepare you for the experiential in-person module.

Part 2: In-Person Experiential Workshop

The in-person workshop takes you deeper into the transformative role of music in holotropic states. We will work with the breathwork seven-stage structure in a hands-on way, explore your music choices, and begin crafting music sets in collaboration with peers. There will be opportunities for creative exploration—through art, journaling, movement, singing, and playing—to help you directly experience how music functions in expanded states of consciousness. This embodied work cultivates a greater appreciation for both the music you select and the musicians who created it. As a group, we will co-create a complete music set that will be played during one of the breathwork sessions.

While this workshop focuses on music for Grof Breathwork, we will also touch on music for holotropic states of many kinds, including psychedelic sessions. As we explore and listen to specific tracks, we’ll note how they may fit different phases of psychedelic work, and our facilitators—drawing on extensive experience with psychedelic session playlists—will welcome questions.

This is a residential workshop that includes four full Grof Breathwork sessions, 2 sessions as a breather and 2 sessions as a sitter.

Accommodations and Meals

This is a residential workshop. Prices for residential options include 8-days, 7-nights lodging and three meals a day, with only dinner on arrival day and breakfast on departure day.

Grof® Breathwork is a transformative experience designed to facilitate deep self-exploration and healing. Due to the intense physical and emotional nature of the practice, certain health conditions may pose risks during breathwork sessions. Travel Information

Air: The closest airport is Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, CT, and is a 30 minute drive to The Genesis Spiritual Center.

Train: The nearest Amtrak stop is Union Station in Springfield, MA, and is about a 25 minute drive to The Genesis Spiritual Center.

Bus: The closest bus stop is Court / High Street, which is a half mile walk, about 10 minutes, from The Genesis Spiritual Center.
